The Institute is primarily a professional body and does not look to compete with educational or training providers it supports. As such Institute programmes are often delivered by accredited third parties. To be considered valid for certification, a qualification must be approved or accredited. To apply for approval or accreditation of your qualifications download and return application via link and contact form at the bottom of this page.

Please not that you will be required to provide a course syllabus at a later date including specific learning objectives and descriptions of assessment methods and course content. If individual modular documents break this information down further these will also be required.

Approved Qualification

An approved qualification is any qualification awarded by any licensed or unlicensed entity, recognised by the Institute as meeting the competency requirements of one or more of the competency domains assessed in certification. Holders of approved qualifications are treated as if they held a corresponding Institute qualification for the purposes of certification.

Anyone holding or delivering the qualification may apply for approved status relating to it.

Accredited Degree

An accredited degree in Intelligence is awarded by a licensed or unlicensed university, recognised by the Institute as meeting the requirements for certification. Graduates holding such a degree do not need further training or education prior to general registration.

Any graduate holding the degree or faculty member delivering it may apply for accredited status relating to it.

Official Logos

As a regulatory body the Institute has strict rules concerning affiliation of any kind with the Institute. It is only permissible to present a recognised status or the accompanying logo on documents issued on behalf of the Institute, on the professional stamp and on the letterheads of the Institute, its affiliates and licensed institutions. The Institute may also grant permission to use the logo in press articles and news items relating to the Institute on a case by case basis.

The Institute offers a number of designations and accompanying logos to education and training providers of approved qualifications and accredited degrees to emphasise their professional status and that their programmes have been recognised as counting towards professional registration and compliance with professional standards. Logos are available in different sizes, colours and formats upon request.

Accreditation Standards

The accreditation process is fundamentally the consolidation and application of relevant international and industry standards to a subject. So, qualifications bestowed with the Institute for European Intelligence and Security as the awarding or accrediting body are fully compliant with and accredited to a variety of training and educational standards for intelligence. These include, but are not limited to:

UN IPO DTS: The Integrated Training Service of the United Nations Department for Peace Operations maintains pre-deployment and in-mission training standards for peacekeepers across civilian, military and police branches. Minimum standards are outlined in General Assembly Resolution A/RES/49/37, training and selection standards and materials and guidelines pertaining to peace operations.

NATO ETEE: MC 458/2 is the overarching policy framework for all NATO Education, Training, Exercise and Evaluation (ETEE) and the governing directives Bi-SC 75-2 Education and Training (ET), Bi-SC 75-3 Collective Training and Exercise (CTE) and Bi-SC 75-7 Education and Individual Training (EIT) are derived from it. These standards greatly enhance the professionalism of military training.

EU VET: European standards on Vocational Education and Training (VET) appear in a variety of publications originating from various institutions. The Common Quality Assurance Framework (CQAF) combines existing standards such as ISO-9000 and EFQM. The European Quality Assurance Reference Framework (EQARF), European Qualification Framework (EQF), Europass, specific CEN standards and hundreds of other policies, models and guidelines are collectively implemented for full EU VET compliance.

ISO 29990: Although ISO-29990 has been withdrawn, accreditation remains in widespread use. The replacement 2999-series remains a standard from the International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO) Technical Committees specifying the basic requirements for providers of learning services in non-formal education and training. Collectively, these standards improve the quality of learning and improves organisational effectiveness in delegate organisations, reducing overall business costs.
